Sightseeing
in Laarbeek
In the Waterpoort of De Peel, there is a rich history. Laarbeek has old cores from the Middle Ages. For example, in 1300, the grounds of Broek and Leek were given by the Duke of Brabant to the inhabitants of Beek en Donk in joint ownership. Eyckenlust Castle was given on loan at that time to Drik de Rovere, high scout of Den Bosch, and can be partially seen during the Recht en Orde (Law and Order) walking route. But there is much more to see in Laarbeek. For example, visit the Heilig Bloed Mission Convent in Aarle-Rixtel, inhabited since 1903 by the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood. Book a guided tour or attend Holy Mass. Or take a look at the mill Vogelenzang. Windmill Vogelenzang was drawn several times by Vincent van Gogh around 1880. This mill is also part of the award-winning Vincent van Gogh cycle route. While in Mariahout the parish used to be dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, the first pastor decided to build a Lourdes grotto there in 1932. For years pilgrims were attracted by this Lourdes grotto. Behind the grotto there is a procession park, in which some statues related to Lourdes can be found. Definitely worth a visit! Experience the history of Laarbeek by visiting monuments, statues and important places. Discover the mysteries and secrets in the Waterpoort of De Peel.
